Galangal, laos, or kelawas (in Karo language) (Alpinia galanga) is a type of tuber plant that can live in the highlands and lowlands. Galangal is one of herbs that are often cultivated in Asian areas such as India, Arab, China, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. Galangal can be divided into two types namely red and white Galangal. One of the characteristics of white Galangal is that it has more fiber than red Galangal. Moreover, there are several benefits of Galangal such as:
- It can protect skin conditions from infection, because Galangal contains vitamin C, which has the role to regenerate skin cells, and making our skin look younger from aging
- It is potent to treat asthma problems, because it has been proven that Galangal can dilate bronchioles. So that’s effective to reduce asthma. Furthermore, that’s still related to the fact that Galangal has an anti-inflammation trait
- Galangal has the benefit to reduce cholesterol, because the extract of Galangal against fatty acid synthase, due to the content of its flavonoid such as kaempferol and quercetin.
- It helps to reduce fever, because Galangal contains the substance of antiseptic and analgesic which has a function to prevent infection. That substance has the role as an antibacterial can inhibit pathogenic bacteria.
